Queensland police have launched a murder investigation after a 62-year-old man was found dead in his backyard at a home on the Gold Coast.
- The man's body was found at Ashmore after he was last seen at Southport the night before
- A 35-year-old man, described as a person of interest, was taken into custody on Sunday
- Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the victim on Saturday evening to come forward
His body was found at a property at Ashmore on the Gold Coast.
Officers responded to a welfare check at a home at Lillian Crescent shortly before 9am on Sunday.
They found the man's body in the backyard.
The property was declared a crime scene and specialist officers conducted examinations.
Detective Inspector Brendan Smith said "the man had significant injuries, he was already deceased".
Police took a person of interest into custody on Sunday afternoon, after finding a 35-year-old man in unusual circumstances.
"He was quite distinctive when he was located around lunchtime today as he wasn't wearing any pants," Inspector Smith said.
The dead man was last seen at about 7:30pm on Saturday at a bowls club at Southport.
Ashmore resident Randall Hauldridge told the ABC that he was shocked to hear of the tragic news.
"It's pretty hard to comprehend, you don't expect that type of thing in this area," Mr Hauldridge said.
"It's normally a pretty quiet relaxing place to live. We're a pretty close tight knit community around here so that type of thing is a bit of a blow."
Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen him there or later in the evening to contact them.
