A Canberra man has been released on bail after police allege they found nearly half a million dollars in cash, assorted drugs and a handwritten note with detailed instructions for drug trafficking titled "Dad's Advice" and signed "Daddio xx".
Simon Arthur, 47, has been charged with trafficking in cocaine and cannabis, and dealing in the proceeds of crime.
The ACT Magistrates Court heard Mr Arthur had been in the United Kingdom at the time police raided his house, and was alerted by family members.
His lawyer, Michael Kukulies-Smith, told the court Mr Arthur had voluntarily cut his trip short and returned to Australia, handing himself in to police on Monday.
Police said they executed a search warrant in the inner-north suburb of Turner on August 20.
They said they found 250 grams of cocaine, around 2.5 kilograms of cannabis in heat-sealed bags, and what was suspected to be cannabis resin, gummies and seeds.
Police said there were also small amounts of other drugs including valium, along with four firearm magazines and two mobile phones.
It was alleged most of the drugs and money were found in the same area of the garage.
Prosecutors opposed bail, saying they feared Mr Arthur might flee, or interfere with witnesses.
But Mr Kukulies-Smith said his client's cooperation so far was "not consistent with that being a meaningful concern".
"He could have had prolonged his [travel] opportunity … he hasn't done that," Mr Kukulies-Smith said.
"He's facilitated his arrest."
Mr Arthur was ordered to hand over his passport and live where the court had ordered.
He will return to court later this month.
