Members of the public have overpowered a man after he allegedly fired a gun following a car crash in Melbourne's north-east.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly fired a shot following a collision of two vehicles near the Williamsons and Manningham road intersection in Doncaster around 11am.

The man left the vehicle and allegedly fired a gun.

A police car is next to a surround a black ute that has its front beaten up and another white car with a damaged back.

The incident, which allegedly involved a firearm, happened after two cars collided in Melbourne's east. (ABC News)

Police said members of the public managed to overpower the man and hold him until officers arrived.

The firearm was seized and police said there had been no injuries to the public.

However the man sustained minor injuries and is currently in police custody.

The driver of the second vehicle will be interviewed by police as investigations continue.

Police and SES are at the scene.

Williamsons Rd has been closed northbound between Doncaster and Manningham roads, causing significant traffic delays.
