A man charged with sexual offences in 2021 has been extradited to Queensland after being arrested by international authorities in Thailand.

Helio Taiyang Matahari, 62, was arrested in Thailand last week after overstaying his visa and was deported to Australia.

Queensland Police allege the man, who was charged with rape and multiple counts of sexual assault, failed to appear in a Brisbane court in 2021.

"On September 9, the QPS received information that the man had been detained in Thailand by local authorities, where he had overstayed his visa," a Queensland police spokesperson said.

Mr Matahari was flown to New South Wales on September 19. He appeared in a Sydney court on Friday and was extradited to Queensland.

He appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday morning charged with failure to appear in accordance with an undertaking.

He was remanded in custody and his matter has been adjourned until next month.
