Five teenagers have been charged after three youths were allegedly stabbed with a box cutter during a fight in a shopping centre food court in Melbourne's east.
The brawl, involving seven youths at Doncaster Shopping Centre around 5:30pm on Friday, resulted in three males being taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said on Saturday morning police had charged five of the youths with offences including attempted robbery, affray and assault.
Three of the young men were bailed, two have been remanded in custody and another is yet to be interviewed, the commissioner said.
"The investigation will be ongoing obviously but the police involved have acted swiftly," he said.
"Of course it's concerning when we see any incident like this occurring in a public place."
Police said one of the injured youths had a suspected stab wound to the upper body, while two others had lacerations, one to the back and one to the arm.
Commissioner Patton said two of the boys had been discharged from hospital, while one still remained in medical care in a stable condition.
It follows an unrelated fatal shopping centre food court stabbing in Melbourne's west last month.
Oscar Hamilton, 16, died after being stabbed at Woodgrove Shopping Centre in Melton on September 24.
He had been eating at the centre's outdoor food court with friends when he was stabbed in front of school holiday lunchtime diners.
