Gold Coast couple Karla and Michael Ronning are swapping suburban life for acreage living.

The couple, who runs bike stores Giant Gold Coast and Giant Bicycle Nerang, recently listed their five-bedroom Highland Park home after purchasing land in nearby Mount Nathan.

20 Ardrossan Place, Highland Park is on the market via expressions of interest.

They bought the Highland Park house in 2018 and spent the past six years renovating and updating it.

“When we first walked into the house we looked at the view and we thought we couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.

“It was an older 1990-built house so it had the peach-coloured bathrooms but we fell in love with the house, the view and the character.”

The family has renovated the property, transfomring from a 1990s house to a modern abode.

The modern three-level house at 20 Ardrossan Place includes multiple living areas, games room, rumpus room, built-in office, pool and a water slide.

“We basically did a full renovation apart from the pool,” Mrs Ronning said.

“We really wanted to take full advantage of the view.

“We put in big industrial sliding doors so as soon as you walk through the front doors, the whole house is opened up and you can see the city skyline.”

Mrs Ronning, a mum-of-four, said the house suited a wide variety of ages,

“It’s such a great house for both the little kids growing up to the bigger kids,” she said.

“They’re all different ages but there’s just so much different space.

“I’ve got a 13-year-old who loves playing table tennis or is in the pool with mates and then we have the little ones who love the pool and the water slide.”

And while bittersweet to sell, Mrs Ronning said she hopes another family can enjoy the house.

“We are a very outdoors-type family, all my kids ride motorbikes and are into bikes so that curiosity to move onto land and give the kids a different lifestyle has taken over,” Mrs Ronning said.

“Otherwise we would never leave this house.”

The property is on the market via expressions of interest through Natalie Mayne and Katie Pikos of Gold Coast Property Sales & Rentals.
