THE son of a woman killed in a house fire in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire this morning desperately tried to save her.
Mother-of-four Lynne Young died in the blaze early this morning, with friends and neighbours waking to the tragic news about the 55-year-old’s death.

Her 33-year-old son tried to save her but the internal stairs collapsed as he tried to reach her, neighbour Martin Bristow said.
Two men, thought to be Ms Young’s son and her partner, managed to escape the two-storey house on Paringa Plc.
“I run outside and it was totally alight,” Mr Bristow said.
“It lit up like a fire cracker.”
Mr Bristow said it didn’t take long for the fire to completely destroy the home which he believed Ms Young had lived in for more than 30 years.
“When I got there, you could see the flames in the upstairs bedroom and then all of a sudden it broke through the roof and leapt about three metres in the air,” he said.
Mr Bristow’s wife Dianne said she was shocked by the intensity of the fire.
“It went up so fast, it was really ferocious,” she said.
Police have confirmed they believe the large amounts of rubbish in the backyard of the property may have contributed to how quickly the flames spread.
Neighbour Heidi McGregor went to school with Ms Young’s daughter and said the news was devastating.
“I woke up to what sounded like explosions and heard there had been a fire,” Ms McGregor said.
“Its really sad. Everyone’s really shaken up. “Everyone locally knows the family.”
“We went to our after-party at the senior ball 15 years ago at the house … I haven’t seen the family in ages and just found out it was them.”

The fire quickly spread to the garage and threatened neighbouring properties.
Sutherland Detective Inspector Terry O’Neill said police and Fire Rescue had been alerted to the fire by a neighbour walking his dogs.

“A coronial report will be prepared,” Inspector O’Neill said.
“The cause and starting location is still not known.
“It’s a tragic day for the community.”
A Sutherland Shire spokeswoman confirmed the council had received complaints about rubbish at the property in January 2013 and April 2015.
“In both instances follow up inspections by Council officers revealed that the rubbish had been removed from the property,” the spokeswoman said.
Later in the morning police were seen taking a man believe to be the deceased woman’s son.

Police shielded his face from the media as they led him to the back of an ambulance.
Kieran Taylor from NSW Fire and Rescue said the house started collapsing from the inside as they tried to put the fire out.
“We had crews both on the ground level and in the upstairs level on arrival, engaged in fire attack,” he said.
“They were only in there for approximately five minutes when the roof started coming down, so we had to pull them out, straight away. As soon as a structure loses its integrity, we have to get crews outside the building for their safety.”
