Detectives leave an apartment on the corner of Australia Ave and Parkview Dr, Homebush Bay, the location where it is believed that pug dog Egg was stolen.

POLICE have confirmed that missing pug Egg was never missing but died at his owner’s home on February 9.

A NSW police spokeswoman said “the dog was not stolen but in fact died at the owner’s home and his body was disposed of”.

It is understood that the dog died inside the owner’s apartment in Sydney Olympic Park on a 32 degree day.

Police reported earlier this week that initial reports Egg had been stolen at knifepoint were made up.

Police have since charged a 29-year-old man after he allegedly made a false report of an armed robbery in Sydney Olympic Park.

The man told police that three unknown men armed with knives approached him while he was walking his dog on Australia Ave on February 9.

He claimed the unknown men demanded he hand over his wallet and backpack and also abducted his 14-month-old pug Egg.

Police made a public plea for any one with knowledge of the alleged robbery to come forward.

Investigations, however, revealed inconsistencies in the story and the pet owner was last night charged by officers from the Flemington Local Area Command for allegedly reporting a false armed robbery.

He has been issued a future court attendance notice for false representation resulting in police investigation.
