Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has been caught short by a sausage again, this time during a segment on Studio Ten. Picture: AAP/Channel Ten

THEY say laws are like sausages — it’s best not to see them being made.

But Bill Shorten threw caution to the wind and had a crack at making “democracy” sausages from scratch during a cooking segment on Network 10s Studio 10 morning show.

The federal opposition leader came under fire on election day last July when he ate a sausage from the middle of the roll, rather than the end. The comments and abuse on social media ran for several days, and sure enough an image of the Prime Minister eating one the right way turned up.

Studio 10 co-host Denise Drysdale blasted Mr Shorten’s cooking skills on Friday after he tried to mix the mince meat and breadcrumb sausage filling with a wooden spoon.

“No, with your hands, you goose!” she said.

Mr Shorten was encouraged to pretend the mixture was Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

“He would have different ingredients, wouldn’t he? A little more truffle,” Mr Shorten said.

A visibly embarrassed Mr Shorten also had trouble putting the sausage casing onto the machine, which pumps in the mixture, as his cooking companions made jokes laced with sexual innuendo.

“I cannot believe the advice I just got in my earpiece just then,” he said.

“It has got to go all the way on, otherwise you’ll have an accident.”

The end result was a small sausage. Hmmmm

As if the small sausage segment didn’t go badly enough, Shorten said the thing he liked most about Malcolm Turnbull was his wife Lucy. Boom!!! Picture :Kym Smith

Earlier in the program, Mr Shorten revealed during a quiz that the thing he likes most about Mr Turnbull was his wife Lucy.

And asked what he would say to US President Donald Trump if he had five seconds of face time, he responded: “What is going on?”

Yep, that’s Bill at another sausage sizzle — and, incredibly, that’s a sausage the right way up.

Later Mr Shorten joked he was worried his children might repeat things he had said at home about Mr Trump, if they met him.
