A WOMAN, who had stopped for a coffee before work, is in a critical condition after a car struck the footpath and slammed into her on Friday morning.
A passer-by said he rushed to her aid but “she wasn’t too well,” and her “legs were bent backwards”.
A pram with a child inside was also hit by the Toyota in Sydney’s North Shore this morning at the height of the rush hour.
Just before 8.30am, a sedan travelling along Victoria Avenue in Chatswood left the road and struck the pram followed by the female pedestrian who was walking along the pavement. The vehicle then crashed into a nearby pole and flipped onto its side.
Emergency services say the woman, believed to be aged in her 30s, had serious head injuries.
The baby, who was not related to the woman, was not injured but has been taken by family to a medical centre to be checked as a precaution.
“I don’t know if she was alive or not, but we just had her in our arms, she wasn’t too well,” courier Oubrie Elrish told Nine News.
As he approached her, Mr Elrish said he could see blood.
He added that “both her legs were bent backwards”.
The woman was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital. Police have said they do not believe the injured woman has any connection to the child in the pram.
The 67-year-old male driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries and will undergo mandatory blood and urine testing.
Victoria Avenue is closed in both directions between Neridah Street and Archer Street.
Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the area.
