VIDEO has captured the terrifying moment a 300-metre cruise ship came bearing down on a waterfront property before stopping just 30 metres away.
The 122,000-tonne vessel came heart-stoppingly close to the $2.9 million home in Florida as owners Bill and Yasmine Todhunter desperately tried to get the attention of the captain, The Sun reported.
When the cruise ship finally came to a stop, Bill could only yell: “Somebody is going to get fired,” WPLG-10 news reported.
The couple are used to seeing cruise ships pass by their Port Everglades mansion but said that the Celebrity Equinox got a little too close for comfort.
“We’ve been here for six years,” Bill said. “We’ve never seen anything like that.”
He said that after the cruise ship had come to a halt, the guests could be heard applauding.
The cruise ship, which can hold 2,850 people, had been heading out on a Caribbean cruise for an expected 10 nights, listed as taking their guests around Barbados and other nearby islands.
But due to a accidental spill of 3400 litres of fuel on Thursday night, the cruise ship instead docked at a different terminal.
The Daily Mail reported the boat appeared to have drifted too far north — sending it terrifyingly close to the Todhunters’ home.
During the harrowing experience, Yasmine can be heard saying “it’s too close”, with the couple’s dog joining in the panic.
Celebrity Cruises issued a statement, saying: “As Equinox departed on Friday, March 3, she was in her assigned channel at all times under the guidance of specialised local port pilots.
“The ship operated safely and did not put guests or crew at risk. We can also confirm the ship did not touch bottom.”
Bill said he had reported the incident to the US Coast Guard, with the agency conducting a full investigation.
