TWO cute little ponies have showed their devious side, seizing a New York City snow day to make a mad dash for freedom.
The father and daughter, Blondie and Jewels, reportedly made their escape when the storm blew their barn door wide open.
Residents didn’t know what to make of it when they saw the tiny trotters frolicking in the snow in the densely-populated suburbs.
Naturally, the local city-slickers had no idea what to do with two such fearsome beasts.
So there you have it. Ponies staged a takeover of a major New York City borough.
Fortunately, an off-duty cop was able to channel his inner wild-west lawmen to bring the fugitives to justice, and restore order to the streets.
Officer Anthony Parante lassoed the pair, tying them to a lamp post with yellow tow straps, until their owner was able to take them home.
He was assisted by a team of police officers from the City’s Special Operations unit.
“They were very well behaved. I managed to put it on them like you would a dog leash,” said Mr Parante, who clearly has a sense of humour after 11 years of public service.
“Never would’ve thought I’d see two ponies in the middle of a blizzard on Staten Island.”
His efforts even won him a shout-out from Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“I want to thank our cowboy officer for having quickly addressed the situation,” he said.
