NETFLIX has a very good track record with creating popular original content, but one of its latest big-ticket items has failed to hit the mark.

Since its debut last week, Amy Schumer’s The Leather Special has been met with terrible reviews.

While Netflix might be upset given its large investment into the content, Schumer said her special was not a dud, claiming the ratings system had been sabotaged by a well-coordinated online campaign from the alt-right.

In a lengthy Instagram post, the stand-up comedian said this was the latest effort to ruin her career.

“Anyone who reported that “viewers aren’t happy” with my special, it would have been cool if you did a moment of research before posting,” she wrote.

“The alt-right organised trolls attack everything I do ... They organise to get my ratings down.”

The 35-year-old said the alt-right organised similar protests against her book, TV show and movies.

“I want to thank them. It makes me feel so powerful and dangerous and brave.

“Call me a whale. Call me a thief and I will continue to rise and fight and lead.

“I know who I am. I am strong and beautiful and will use my voice my whole time on this earth.”

The news comes as Netflix announced a massive change to one of its longest standing features, which is timely given the latest controversy surrounding Schumer’s latest comedy special.

The streaming giant said it will be changing its ratings system from the traditional five star approach to a thumbs-up/thumbs-down method.

Netflix vice president of product Todd Yellin explained the streaming service’s own content was at the core of the change.

“Five stars feels very yesterday now,” he said in a statement, reported The Verge.

“We’re spending many billions of dollars on the titles we’re producing and licensing, and with these big catalogues, that just adds a challenge.

“Bubbling up the stuff people actually want to watch is super important.”
