A ‘penis seat’ has been introduced on public transport in Mexico as part of a United Nations campaign to fight sexual harassment.
The plastic seat, which features key parts of the male anatomy, has been introduced on Mexico City’s train network.
It forms a key part of sexual harassment campaign by UN Women Mexico.
The seat, which is moulded with the shape of a male torso and an erect penis, is accompanied by a YouTube video.
The seat is labelled “for men only” and a plaque next to it reads: “It’s uncomfortable to sit here but it doesn’t compare with the sexual violence that women suffer in their everyday lives.”
In the video the curious reactions of male and female commuters to the seat are captured.
The campaign has been given the name “The Seat Experiment” with the
accompanying hashtag: #noesdehombres or “itsnotmanly.
The video ends with the “Nine out of ten women in Mexico City have been victims of some form of sexual violence.”
The people behind the idea have also been involved in a similar campaign where the bottoms of male passengers were filmed and broadcast onto screens in the city’s underground stations.
