Hilarious footage of Dan Stevens on the set of Beauty and the Beast has emerged, with the actor sporting a very different look.

Wearing a full body, padded grey suit and bouncy platform shoes, the British actor looks far less imposing than he did in the final version of the film.

However, thanks to the beauty of CGI, Stevens was transformed from an actor in an unflattering costume to an intimidating beast. 

The suit was a necessity to ensure Stevens replicated the size and form of the beast, with producers working their CGI magic upon completion of filming.

Fans have latched onto the footage, with many impressed by the ability of Emma Watson, as Belle, to maintain a straight face while her co-star wore such an absurd outfit.

Adding to the hilarity is the juxtaposition between Watson in her stunning yellow ball gown and Stevens looking like a baby elephant.

This isn't the first time behind the scenes footage of a CGI-laden film has emerged. Footage of the Harry Potter films looks far less impressive when the effects of magical spells are removed, with actors simply pointing sticks and yelling at each other.

Further, footage of Benedict Cumberbatch playing Smaug during the Hobbit movies revealed him crawling around the ground looking nothing like the menacing dragon he would become in the films.
