Metro Trains have restored their train service information systems after they were shut down due to a technical fault for more than five hours, causing widespread commuter confusion.
All displays, automated announcements and the Public Transport Victoria website and app were brought to a halt across Metro train stations in Melbourne from 9am.
Metro Trains spokesman Marcus Williams said the technical issue was resolved shortly after 2.30pm.
"Our train service information is now being displayed correctly," Mr Williams said.
"We apologise to our passengers for the inconvenience this morning and thank them for their patience while our technicians worked on the issue."

Passengers had taken to social media to vent their ire at the disruption.
