Theresa May has cast her vote in her home constituency of Maidenhead, just to London's west (close to Windsor Castle).

She has held the seat since its creation in 1997, and enjoys a huge majority of almost 30,000 - though there could be some tension, as the "Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead" voted to Remain in the EU, while May was a lukewarm Remain supporter who has now embraced Brexit.

She faces 11 opponents: some of them, you'd have to say, just a little eccentric.

Independent candidate Lord Buckethead describes himself as an "intergalactic space lord" who "intercepted countless earth transmissions complaining that your country currently lacks effective opposition... so here I am".

His policies include "no third runway at Heathrow (where we are going, we don't need runways)".

May also faces a stiff challenge from Monster Raving Loony Party leader 'Howling Laud' Hope.

Mr Hope, 74, also known as Alan, said he was looking forward to what would be his 25th parliamentary election. He stood against David Cameron last time.

He took over the party leadership in 1999 following the death of party founder Screaming Lord Sutch.

He was joint leader of the party with his cat Catmando, but Catmando died in 2002 in a road accident. His policies include painting half of the grey squirrel population red and using a credit card to pay of Britain's national debt.
