Luckless Richmond big-man Ben Griffiths has dislocated his right shoulder in what is another devastating setback to his career, during the Tigers' VFL clash with Collingwood on Sunday.
The 25-year-old was playing his second game back from a two-and-a-half-month layoff following a run of concussions that his teammate Jack Riewoldt described as "extremely scary".
Griffiths picked up the shoulder injury in the second quarter of the contest at Punt Road Oval, which the Magpies went on to win by two points.
In his comeback game last week Griffiths kicked two goals in a big Tigers win over Werribee in Frankston.
On medical advice in late April the Tigers chose to rule the 200cm forward-ruck out for an indefinite period, after he sustained his second concussion for the season while playing in the VFL.
That second concussion came in his return game from his first concussion for 2017, against Collingwood's AFL side in round two.
He took a three week break from football between the first 2017 concussion and the second. Prior to that he had been concussed at least three times since joining the Tigers via pick 26 in the 2011 national draft.
"It's hard work – it's not looking good for him, but we're not quite sure where that will go either," Richmondfooty boss Neil Balme told 3AW in April.
"We're probably over-conservative but I think that's the way we need to be ... They're almost subjective things, concussions. That's the hard thing with it."
Griffiths has played 63 AFL games since being drafted, but only 15 since the beginning of 2016.
He joins young St Kilda forward Paddy McCartin and Melbourne youngster Angus Brayshaw who have also had to take extended periods out of 2017 due to numerous concussions.
