London: India require 229 to win the Women's Cricket World Cup for the first time after restricting England to 7-228 at Lord's.

Veteran pace bowler Jhulan Goswami, playing in her fourth World Cup, was the chief destroyer, scything through England's strong middle order taking three wickets for two runs in 10 balls.

England won the toss and elected to bat in front of a sell-out crowd and started strongly with openers Lauren Winfield and Tammy Beaumont playing positively.

Winfield departed for 24 after being bowled around her legs by Rajeshwari Gayakwad and she soon joined back in the pavilion by Beaumont who smashed a rank full toss straight to Goswami at deep mid-wicket.

England were then reduced to 3-63 when skipper Heather Knight was correctly adjudged to lbw for one to a Poonam Yadav delivery following a DRS review.

Sarah Taylor and Nat Sciver steadied the ship for the hosts before the dangerous Taylor (45) was caught down the leg-side by Sushma Verma to hand Goswami her first wicket.

She grabbed her second from her very next delivery when Fran Wilson was struck on the pad for a golden duck and despite the ball looking to be drifting down leg side she didn't review the decision.

Sciver became Goswami's third victim when she fell for 51 after failing to overturn a lbw decision to have England reeling at 6-164.

Katherine Brunt was the seventh player to depart and did so for a valuable 34 after a brilliant direct hit at the stumps from Deepti Sharma.

Jenny Gunn (25) and Laura Marsh (14) were not out at the close after putting on 32 runs in 25 balls.
