A man allegedly pulled a knife on another spectator at a junior soccer match in Melbourne's north at the weekend, prompting a police investigation.

Police were called to the match between Point Cook and Keilor Park under-16s at Keilor Park Recreation Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

"One man produced a large knife but was removed from the scene by bystanders," a statement from Victoria Police said.

Paul Portelli, peesident of the Keilor Park Soccer Club, said he's concerned.

"We will have to talk to parents about all this," Mr Portrelli said.

"It's not a good thing thing that people can do this kind of thing where children are present."

Mr Portelli added that such violence was completely unheard of at games.

"We've never had this issue happen before. It's just not on."

Linsday Phillips, vice-president of the Point Cook Soccer Club, said their club would conduct its own investigation along with assisting police in their efforts.

"The club is in the process of speaking to people who were there and involved," he said.

"Based on that we'll make our own determination on what actions the club may need to take.

"This type of action is unacceptable anywhere let alone at an under-16s kids soccer match.

"It's not something we would tolerate as a club."

A witness has told radio station 3AW that a verbal altercation broke out between some parents in the crowd around 3.30pm.

"Police were called, and believe me there was a lot of police," he said.

Police say no one was injured and no one has yet been charged.
