Powderfinger's drummer says he was surprised to find out his band mates performed a reunion set at Splendour in the Grass without him.
Jon Coghill, now an ABC Sunshine Coast presenter, was at home looking after his kids when three other former Powderfinger bandmates joined Bernard Fanning on stage at the festival, at the end of Fanning's solo set on Saturday night.
The main stage performance played in front of 10,000 people is being dubbed as a festival highlight, and sent social media into a frenzy.
Coghill said he found out about the "reunion" — the first performance together in seven years — via a text from a friend in the crowd.
"When I heard about it, someone texted me to say, 'Oh I loved the gig' and stuff like that," he said.
"I just thought, what's going on? And I saw it, and I thought oh that's a bit strange.
"So I was a bit surprised, but it is what it is."
Coghill hopes the band has no bad feelings towards him.
"You got to remember that we were together for 20 years and for about the first 10 years of that ... I was a bit of a mean guy who didn't like to lose an argument," he said.
"So if those guys feel like there's a bit of bad blood, I don't blame them.
"But I really don't think there is, I think [the set was] completely innocent and it's been taken out of proportion."
The four members of the five-piece band performed hits such as (Baby I Got You) On My Mind and These Days.
Coghill's place behind the drum kit was taken by Fanning's drummer.
"He's an amazing drummer, so I'm sure he did the songs justice," the 45-year-old said.
Coghill has since been in touch with Fanning, who told him the performance was a spur of the moment idea.
"All the other guys went down to Splendour, and I didn't go because I haven't been for a few years because we got the young kids and it's a bit hard at the moment," he said.
"So they got together on a bit of a whim and went up on stage and played with Bernie.
"I was texting Bernie yesterday, and he was saying, 'look it was sort of a last-minute thing and it's now been blown out of proportion'."
Coghill revealed the band is meeting with its management this week, but refused to discuss if a proper reunion tour is on the cards.
