Police are responding to a siege in Melbourne's south-east.

Uniformed officers and a critical incident response team are at an address on Brighton Road, Ripponlea.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the incident was a siege but could not confirm further details.

VicRoads said motorists should expect delays southbound near Burns Street in Elwood, due to a police incident.

Drivers have been advised to avoid the area.
