Marc Leishman is hoping to top off his best season on the US PGA Tour with a breakthrough major title at this week's PGA Championship.
Leishman has been the form Australian on Tour this year with his victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March among five top-10s and 12 top-25s from 20 events.
"With the win and the consistency I've experienced from the start of the season in October until now, it's definitely been my best year," Leishman said.
The 33-year-old Victorian has been a contender at the majors during the past few years, with his best result a runner-up finish at the 2015 British Open, when he lost in a playoff to Zach Johnson at St Andrews.
And after sharing sixth place at last month's British Open at Royal Birkdale, Leishman feels ready to take the next step on golf's biggest stage.
"I think a major title or the ($US10 millon) FedEx Cup is probably the only way this year can get better. We play for the majors and this is the only one left this year," said Leishman.
"To win it would be huge, obviously. It would turn a really good year into a great year."
But first, Leishman needs to vanquish his demons at North Carolina's Quail Hollow course.
The Warrnambool native has played the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow three times, missing the cut once and finishing 48th and 65th.
With the course undergoing several design changes, Leishman is confident of turning around an unhappy hunting ground since last playing the venue in 2012.
"I've played this tournament a few times and the result hasn't been great," said Leishman.
"But I'm definitely a better player now than the last time I played Quail Hollow.
"The changes they made suit me. Some of the holes use to require a big hook and that made me uneasy, as a fader of the golf ball.
"Now, there are plenty of left-to-right tee shot and that plays into my hands."
