The Block producer Justin Sturzaker and Scott Cam

The producer of The Block Justin Sturzaker is selling his Warriewood home, resigned to the fact the reality television show has moved permanently to Melbourne.

The Block is not coming back to Sydney in the foreseeable future,” Sturzaker admitted.

“We are embedded in Melbourne where the price of property is lower and where councils are proactive in helping us,” he said.

For example, next year’s renovation series is set in St Kilda where an infamous hotel, The Gatwick, will be overhauled. The local council pitched the property to the show, such is the relationship of the program and the city.

Mr Sturzaker grew up in Newport and he and his wife Tracy bought their Warriewood home six years ago.

They loved the architect design of 14 Warriewood Rd, the north-facing safe backyard and the entertaining decks ideal for their then primary school aged children.

“I was a surfer, too, and the house is just 500m from the beach,” Mr Sturzaker said.

Being on The Block, Mr Sturzaker is exposed to new building products. He has used one of them in the Warriewood home, a high-end gyprock with mosaic finish.

Louvre windows, a wraparound deck and a high-end product on the walls are features of this home.

The home also has a raised kitchen which allows a clear line of vision over the living area and into the garden.

“It is simple but also very effective,” he said.

The couple particularly like their main bedroom which takes the entire top level and which has a sprawling ensuite.

Louvre windows allow sun and breeze into the home without the need for artificial heat and cooling.

“You can always smell the salt from the ocean,” he said.

The house has a garage and storage, all the bedrooms have built-in wardrobes and the wraparound decks are north and east facing for maximum sun and sea breeze.
