The Savills Western Australia business has bolstered its agency offering with two key hires to round out a strong performance in 2017.

The Capital Transactions and Office Leasing teams have appointed new associate directors, Nick Charlton and Brett Perry respectively, to assist in the ongoing growth of Savills market share in Perth.

Mr Charlton, who is due to commence at the end of January, has 14 years of real estate experience and joins Savills most recently from JLL, where he worked in the company’s Capital Markets team in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, predominantly specialising in commercial office transactions.

His experience also spans the valuations, property management, leasing, investment acquisitions, disposals and advisory sectors.

Savills WA managing director Graham Postma said the company was pleased to welcome Mr Charlton to its Western Australia team

“Nick successfully transacted the largest office transaction in the Kuala Lumpur office market in 2016 for a total of AU$153.5million,” he said.

“Spending the past three years in Southeast Asia will be beneficial to the Savills business, with many of Nick’s Chinese, Japanese and Hong Kongese clients also active in Australia, and we are looking forward to having his level of expertise on hand in our Perth office.”

Mr Charlton said he was ready to channel his experience in advising international investors, real estate investment trusts, pension funds, sovereign funds and private investors on acquisitions and disposals into Perth’s commercial property market.

“I’m excited to be joining Savills at such a dynamic time,” he said.

“The Perth property market is in a good position, given the activity in Sydney and Melbourne at present.

“In the next couple of years, Perth will become one of the hottest commercial markets in Australia and with office leasing picking up, there will be a knock-on effect to the transactional side.”

Prior to joining JLL, Mr Charlton worked for DTZ in London, advising major corporate clients on cross-border transactions throughout mainland Europe.
Mr Perry joins Savills from ANZ, where he helmed the Western Australian Property Risk department for eight years, advising the bank on potential risks and opportunities in property lending.

Savills director of Office Leasing, Shelley Ritter, said the company was pleased to welcome Mr Perry to its Perth team.

“With more than 25 years' experience in the WA property market, Brett is an expert on all facets of real estate, from residential, healthcare and special-purpose assets, through to high-end commercial property, including the construction of some of Perth’s premier landmarks,” she said.

“His range of exposure in Western Australia extends from Esperance in the south to Kununurra in the north, and includes continual review and advisory on the Perth CBD office market.

“We are looking forward to seeing Brett channel his expertise into Perth’s office leasing sector.”

Mr Perry also worked in the New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Singapore commercial property markets during his time with ANZ, developing a sound and varied contact base.

“Managing the bank’s property risk and consultants has given me a strong technical background in valuation principles and methodology, environmental risks and building contract negotiations,” he said.

“I’m excited to take the next step in my career with Savills Australia, and ready to embrace the new challenges and opportunities ahead.”

Mr Perry is a licensed valuer, a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and sits on the RICS Oceania WA Committee.
