Star Wars fans are a dedicated and protective bunch.
While critics and the general audience broadly agree that the original trilogy is near perfect, the newer films have a more ruthless spread of ratings.
Every film in the main storyline since The Phantom Menace has received a lower audience score than critic score, based on Rotten Tomatoes data.
The Last Jedi was by far hit the hardest. But even with such a low audience score, it has been a huge success — suggesting a fan backlash amounted to just so much 'Bantha Fodder'.
