"The coloured dots around the centre represent beginnings and heritage that are our three junior clubs [Tuggeranong Bulldogs, Tuggeranong Lions, and the Calwell Swans].
"The black hands represent people joining together, and the Boomerangs represent the enduring and ever returning culture of indigenous people."
Working with multiple indigenous players around the club, Hodge sought input from the junior sides when creating the final product.
"There were some amazing ideas, we really wanted to be able to show that we are a diverse indigenous culture as well," Hodge said.
"We have dozens of different tribes involved in our club alone, so I really wanted to make sure while we involved all the diversity, that we focused on one story representing our club and our culture."
Up to eight indigenous players are in contention to play for the Hawks in both their men's and women's first grade sides this weekend.
A smoking ceremony will take place at Greenway Oval at 1.45pm to officially introduce the special round, celebrating the contribution of past and present indigenous players.
Hawks president Gerrit Wanganeen has been overwhelmed by the the support from the community leading up to the landmark round.
"To see this kind of thing in the AFL for so long and now to see in it Canberra has been fantastic," Wanganeen said.
"For Tuggeranong to be the club to take the lead on this and now to see other clubs get around this special round is amazing.
"Everyone at the club have really embraced it and it has really has brought an awareness and respect to what the indigenous culture has not only brought to the game of AFL but to Australia as well."
The Hawks were the first senior AFL team in Canberra to don an indigenous jersey and now the Queanbeyan Tigers will follow suit in their own indigenous jersey against the Belconnen Magpies at Margaret Donoghoe Oval.
Tuggeranong and Queanbeyan's first grade men's and women's side will both wear the jerseys, while Marist College will fly the flag in the Rising Stars competition with their own indigenous jumpers for the second year running.
