THERE are 26 houses being auctioned on the northern beaches this weekend and almost half of them have at least five bedrooms.

Twelve of the houses being offered have five, six or even seven bedrooms.

Agents report extended families and people looking for a property with the potential to rent out part of the home for additional income are actively looking.

Mark Griffiths, of Ray White Seaforth, said 60 groups inspected a seven-bedroom house in Cromer recently which sold for more than $2 million and most were extended families.

Mr Griffiths is auctioning at 10am on Saturday, June 16, a six-bedroom house at 8 Kalaui St, North Balgowlah.

“There are stacks of people wanting a big house and there are three others for sale in the same suburb, so there is some competition too,” he said.

The Kalaui St house has four bathrooms, an ocean view from the upper level and a guest bedroom with an adjoining bathroom which would suit an au pair. It has a guide of $2.95 million.

Half an hour after the North Balgowlah auction a six-bedroom house at 25-27 Kenneth Rd, Manly Vale is being offered at auction. The freestanding brick house has four bedrooms on the ground floor and the entire top level — with two bedrooms, a sunny living space with adjoining balcony, a bathroom and kitchenette — has been set up to accommodate large or extended families.

James Haywood, of Cunninghams Property, added that the upstairs level could be converted into a completely separate dwelling with its own entrance. This spacious home is close to Manly Vale public school and the B-Line bus service which runs all day to the city. The six-bedroom, three-bathroom property goes to auction at 10.30am and has a guide of $1.95 million.

This super-sized property is on 1202sqm of deep waterfront land with a pool and boating facilities. Gordon Spring, of LJ Hooker Newport, said the residence can be enjoyed as one or split into two creating a self-contained lower level, ideal for multi-generational living or entertaining friends and family.

The auction for the Newport property is at 1.45pm and the auction guide is $3.69 million to $3.95 million.

Nine of the houses being auction on the northern beaches on Saturday have five bedrooms and they are in prestige suburbs such as Clontarf, Church Point and Seaforth.

The five-bedroom property with the most affordable advertised guide is 30 Roscommon Cres, Killarney Heights a five-bedroom, three-bedroom house with a price guide of $1.6 million. Karen Terry, of McGrath Forestville, said the multi-level home has sweeping district views and an inground swimming pool. That auction begins at 3pm.
