Mile Jedinak is refusing to get caught up in the furore over the VAR decision to award France a penalty in the Socceroos' opening World Cup match in Kazan on Saturday.

The Australian press is debating whether the video assistant referee was correctly utilised when Joshua Risdon was deemed to have fouled French striker Antoine Griezmann in the box in the second half, after the on-field referee had originally waved play on.

The VAR is supposed to be used only in the case of clear and obvious errors, and the argument from the Australian perspective is the call was a 50-50 one, with the referee seeing it one way before changing his mind after a selection of replays.

Griezmann converted the resulting penalty to give France a 1-0 lead, and while Australia pulled a goal back, the French went on to win the game 2-1.

The Socceroos captain has no interest in participating in the VAR argument.

"It's here and it's here to stay, so I think we've just got to move on," he said.

"People are going to debate that decision yesterday, for as long as we're here and beyond.

"It is what it is now and we have to move on."

When pushed, Jedinak admitted he didn't see the logic behind the VAR's decision.

"On the pitch at the time, I think the fact that the player had kept going for a little bit was probably the strangest thing about it," he said.

"We have to accept it and move forward, as harsh as it may be.

"If I said that I'm frustrated by the decision I wouldn't be lying. But it was made, so we can't change that now. The score says 2-1, a penalty to Griezmann and there you go. Yellow card to Josh Risdon. It is what it is."

As for the 2-1 loss, Jedinak said the players were shattered not to have hung on for a draw. He said concentration levels need to be maintained when taking on the world's top sides.

"You always knew that they are a threat all over the pitch, so it was just about keeping that concentration. People say it for a reason because that's exactly what it is. When you're playing at this level, you have to do that.

"Our shape and our structure is what is going to win us the game.

"We have to put the loss behind us."
