YOU’D THINK that bedroom week would be the easiest week on The Block.

Slap up a couple of walls, bung in a bed, splash on a few coats of paint and ta-da!

Apparently not.

Sunday night’s episode centred around last week’s bathroom winners Hans and Courtney, who are forced to take their ceiling down — because it doesn’t meet code — just a day before reveal.

Will they finish? Who knows, but also who cares? because we’ve been easily distracted by a weird cameo from last year’s contestant Ronnie.

What’s he doing here? Turns out it’s something about a gnome, but we don’t find out much more because it’s time for the Sara show.

Herbo recap Embargoed until 9pm Sunday

There’s one thing that pisses the judges off tonight.

Sara is loving her room sick: “It looks a million bucks and if Shaynna doesn’t like it, I’m quitting,” last week’s last-place finisher threatens.

Inwardly we all are hoping Shaynna hates it now, because we haven’t had the “I’m quitting” scene yet this series, and that might spice things up this week and stop us switching channels to the Bachelor on Wednesday.

Sara’s rant finishes, and Ronnie’s gone now, so we’re off to the judging.

KERRIE AND SPENCE

Kerrie and Spence 2.jpg

The library was a winner.

Point of Difference: Library and big walk-in wardrobe, also they had the benefit of a private session with judges earlier in week

Confidence level: Medium

What the judges said: Darren loved Kerrie and Spence’s library, as did Neale, however he said he found the bedroom itself “claustrophobic”. Not an ideal comment. The judges said that they’d specifically asked for “no bedhead” when they’d chatted with the couple earlier in the week, so they were shirty that they’d been ignored. Not a good tactic in this competition. Shaynna went on to say she loved the colours and Darren threw them a bone by saying they were getting closer to the brief of high-end luxury. All-in-all they were underwhelmed and Neale said it lacked “wow factor”.

Final score: 23

Place: Fourth

COURTNEY AND HANS

Courtney Hans 2.jpg

Plenty of styling.

Point of Difference: Highest pillow count on the bed

Confidence level: High after winning last week, but low after having to rip their ceiling down a day before reveal

What the judges said: The judges loved the concrete finish on the wardrobe and oohed and ahhhhed no end over the colour choices, in particular the “nude”. Shaynna liked how they styled the bed and Darren loved the St Kilda-esque artwork. Neale hated on the pendant lights

Final score: 25.5

Place: Second

HAYDEN AND SARA

Sara and Hayden 1.jpg

Why aren’t there feet on this bed?

Point of Difference: Well executed and fewer heroes as directed by the judges last week

Confidence level: Always high

What the judges said: This is the part of the show where the hating begins. We were teased by compliments early — Darren said he loved the door handles and Shaynna loved the ceiling. Then, arguably the most important thing — execution and paintwork — were complimented by all … and then the burn show begun.

HOW THE BLOCK SAVED FAMOUS ST KILDA STRIP

THE BLOCK: MEET SARA AND HAYDEN

The judges hated the furniture and styling and Neale called the whole place “boring, predictable and a bit dull”. Going on to call it “soulless”. They said the proportions of the room don’t work, they hated the pendants and questioned why there were no feet on the bed.

Final score: 22.5

Place: Last

NORM AND JESS

Norm and Jess 2.jpg

Where are the power-points?

Point of Difference: Massive bedhead and Bromley artwork

Confidence level: Hopeful after being on track to finish early

What the judges said: Darren squealed “lush” — and we think he possibly peed a little bit — when the judges entered the room. Neale said: “the lux factor has just shot up”. They all loved the colours and Darren got touchy-feel with the big green bedhead proclaiming:

“Oh my god, this is hot!”

He’s not happy about everything though.

When they went hunting for power-points and light switches things went a bit pair-shaped, and for a moment it got so negative we thought we were back in Sara and Hayden’s room. “In all seriousness, that pisses me off,” Darren said. But apparently it didn’t matter so much come scoring time with the team finishing third.

Final score: 24.5

Place: Third

CARLA AND BIANCA

Bianca and Carla 1.jpg

Taller than they are.

Point of Difference: Wooden ceiling style carried through from bathroom

Confidence level: Hopeful, but late finishing

What the judges said: They saved the best for last and as soon as the judges start talking we know this pair have won. “I have one word for this room and its hallelujah, someone has finally given us a room that feels modern, luxurious glamorous and on brief,” Neale said. They gushed over the wall lights and floating, under lit bedside tables and said the colour pallet was “on point”. Neale said “if I was checking into a luxury hotel in St Kilda tonight, this is what I would expect to see”. The judges love the room so much they didn’t even care that the painting hadn’t been finished. Sara and Hayden are going to hate that on Monday night during walk-throughs.

Final score: 26

Place: First

— The Block continues Mondays-Wednesdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 7pm on Nine.
