Silvie Paladino is a singer who will perform at Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl this Christmas Eve.

Where do you live?

I live in the northwest of Melbourne with my husband, Greg, my children, Christian and Isabella, and two dogs, Max and Sparkles. We built this house eight years ago. It has a classic-style exterior and a modern interior.

What property do you own?

The home we live in and one other house.

What do you love most about your home?

That it’s new, has clean lines, is modern and, most importantly, that I’m there with my family.

Have you changed anything about your home?

We are currently changing the bathrooms as we wanted a change of decor.

One more thing you’d change?

That it could clean itself!

How many homes have you ever lived in?

This is the fifth home I’ve lived in. But there have been many others I’ve stayed in for extended periods while I’ve been on tours around the world.

The most memorable?

My childhood home — it holds so many memories. We always had people over. “The house of love”, I call it.

Your first foot on the property ladder?

The first home that I bought with my husband. At this home, our lives changed for the better, so it was special.

Are you a keen or reluctant property buyer?

Keen. I love buying property. I think it’s always a sure bet.

How many homes have you ever bought and ever sold?

Bought four and sold three.

The highlights of your property journey?

Selling the first home we had as husband and wife and getting a record price for Keilor East at the time. It was a great feeling!

The lowlights?

Having to sell any property is disappointing. Ideally, it would be great to keep any property you have and add others to your portfolio. But this isn’t always financially viable, especially if you want to purchase better properties.

Best property advice you’ve heard?

Try not to sell. And get a place without a body corporate.

Worst property advice you’ve heard?

Sell! You can’t build your property portfolio if you sell.

Any tips for homebuyers?

Try and see what a property can become. You can do so much once you have a place. And get professional financial advice when making decisions about selling and buying.

Future property plans?

We would love to buy on the Mornington Peninsula — somewhere for a getaway.
