THIS is the house and land you’ve dreamt about when you spoke about moving to the tropical north.

Set on 29 hectares, space, greenery, an orchard and exceptional privacy just over 30 minutes from Cairns has a price tag of just $1.4 million.

Owner Paul Hellyer bought the property at 69863 Bruce Highway, Aloomba nine years ago.

“I was working in Singapore and I thought I had better start looking at retirement. I had always been from Cairns, I left during the late 1980s,” he said.

The orchard.

“I was Looking at where I wanted to live and what I wanted to do after I finished work and I thought being on a farm, growing fruit would be ideal.

“It’s been an absolute dream. When I saw it, it was exactly as I envisaged a tropical paradise. “There is about two acres of landscaping around the house. It was everything I thought it’d be.

“There are waterfalls and creeks running through it and the place is nice and cool because you’re elevated. It’s very private and hard to find. It’s a secret hideaway.”

Personal reasons are behind Mr Hellyer’s decision to sell the three bedroom, two bathroom pavilion style home.

From any position in the house there are views of an artificial lake, the rainforest, the orchard or lush green paddocks.

The tiled and timber home was built under Feng Shui principals.

One wing has two large bedrooms with built in robes and airconditioning plus a large bathroom.

The home also has a large hexagonal living area with French doors and louvres, high exposed timber beamed cathedral ceilings and bi-fold doors opening onto verandas, a gazebo and a jetty to the lake’s edge.

The NG Rosewood kitchen has granite bench tops, a butler’s pantry and a gas cooktop.

All weather, large, tiled garage sits between the main house and a parent’s retreat with French doors and timber louvres overlooking the forest.

Spacious gazebo

That room comes with a walk in robe and large ensuite with a separate bath and a large shower recess.

Cairns Property Office South’s Robyn Hawley-Whitton said she has been receiving plenty of interest in the property, particularly from those hoping to use the space and large orchard for commercial tourism or other business projects.

“Even though it’s a lychee farm, there is the potential to run it as an eco-tourism business and you can always clear one of the orchards and grow something else. There are also two water licenses,” she said.

“There is great access off the highway and with all the subdivisions occurring at Mt Peter and Edmonton, it’ll only get more valuable.

“And who can go past a property in the middle of World Heritage Tropical rainforest and a freshwater lake brimming with fish and night flowering water lilies.”
