As many Sydneysiders were clocking off for their Christmas shut down last Friday, one eastern suburbs agent was hard at work landing a sizeable $16 million sale.
The Wentworth Courier’s sources have confirmed that James Alegre of The Agency masterminded the exchange of a grand five-bedroom home on Fisher Ave in Vaucluse, the longtime home of international jewellery maker Roderick Morton.

According to CoreLogic figures, the address last traded in 1986 for $715,000, a relatively modest price by today’s standards.
The real estate records website does however show a contemporary facade, indicating that a considerable rebuild has been undertaken at the 996sq m property since the 1980s.
In 2016 the Land and Environment Court approved a proposal by the Mortons to build a third-level living area and bar on their rooftop, which had been the subject of a long-running battle between neighbours who feared their multimillion-dollar views would be obstructed.
The Wentworth Courier reported that the approval came after the Mortons won an appeal of a previously rejected application.
It is unclear as to whether the additions were ever completed.
The eye-watering commission from the impressive $16 million sale is no doubt an early Christmas present for Mr Alegre, who has been working as an agent for about a year.

Formerly based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches with The Agency, the one-time champion body builder has only just made the transition to the competitive eastern suburbs market.
Shrouded in secrecy, the off-market sale is yet another double-digit transaction for the exclusive suburb which has seen a flurry of activity in recent months.

In just three months there has been more than $300 million in residential sales take place in Vaucluse, several of which have been over the $10 million mark.
While Mr Alegre remained tight-lipped about the Fisher Ave sale, external sources have said that an out of area Chinese buyer snapped up the home which is believed to have a panoramic vista of the harbour.
