First Base the new PE Nation?
It’s official: Australia is obsessed with athleisure wear (clothing designed for workouts but is instead worn in social situations). The effortless trend has become a wardrobe staple around the world, and last week Aussie label First Base opened their first standalone store in Paddington after growing online sales saw the brand keen to expand.
The trendy boutique just metres from popular shopping district, The Intersection hosted a number of VIPs, media, friends and family. Shoulder to shoulder were fashion-forward girls and boys itching to get their hands on the cool apparel. Offering a range of active staples for the modern girl on-the-go, First Base is designed to go from sport to street and everywhere in between.
Designed in Bondi, the sports lifestyle brand founded by Alison Cotton has established itself as a go-to label for women’s active wear. It is looking like the new PE Nation for athleisure lovers in Sydney.
Sydney A-listers splash cash at White Caravan gala
The who's who of Sydney came together on Thursday night in aid of charity White Caravan, which provides at-risk women with a renovated caravan for a safe and affordable alternative living situation. One guest described the crowd as “an impressive mix of old North Shore rich kids and fashion industry power brokers”.
The Christmas charity dinner, held at the Oatley family home on Balmoral’s waterfront, was hosted by Sydney’s movers and shakers – Nadia Fairfax, Robert Oatley, Tim Holmes a Court, Xanthe Wetzler and Jack and Rae Bedwani – and attended by the next generation of tastemakers and philanthropists.
“A lot of money was being thrown around,” revealed one guest. "Raffle tickets at $50 a pop, and there was a Qualia Resort package that was sold in the high thousands and nobody bat an eyelid." Despite their large chequebooks and the fashion houses at their fingertips, two guests were caught out in a major fashion faux pas, wearing the very same Rebecca Vallance gown to the intimate event.
Bookoccino launch
Avalon institution Bookoccino celebrated its move to new digs with some serious literary names relaxing to sounds from Volatinsky Trio. The low-key affair hosted novelists Geraldine Brooks, Richard Flanagan, Richard Glover and local hero Tom Keneally for their new store location on Old Barrenjoey Road.
