An original Yea home with features from local landmarks offers gracious style and an award-winning garden setting.

The 1892-built `Dunedin’ at 24 Lyons St has been well restored to show off period details such as stained glass windows, high ceilings, Baltic pine floorboards and feature fireplaces.

A modern update has delivered bespoke light fittings, Axminster-style wool carpets, a refurbished bathroom and reverse-cycle airconditioning.

Ornate fireplaces feature in several rooms.

This historic 126-year-old home has a documented provenance and the added charm of incorporating chimneys from the old courthouse and a staircase from Yea Central Hotel.

With its beautiful landscaped grounds featuring a fountain, peonies, statues and numerous tress and plantings, the property has snared Best Town Garden awards.

It is well known for its rose bushes, and its gardens were often open to the public for fundraising, a spokesman for listing agent Michael Keating International said.

The four-bedroom property on an elevated 2569sq m block is in Victorian style with sweeping views, and is close to schools, medical services and dining establishments.

The bedrooms are light filled and spacious.

The property has been used mainly as a family home but was once a bed and breakfast. It last sold in 2016 for $660,000 and has a price guide of $800,000-$880,000.

It would suit buyers looking for easy access to ski slopes during winter and yet close enough to the city, the spokesman said.

The two-level home offers rooms with garden vistas, a grand entrance hall, archways, sweeping staircase and a front veranda. It has multiple living areas with ornate fireplaces, dining room and a library with bespoke shelving.

The refurbished kitchen has Italian walnut benchtops, 1860s tile splashbacks and stained glass windows plus a walk-in pantry.

Original French doors and a skylight are other features, while handmade red bricks from the original kitchen now pave a spacious courtyard. A rear deck offers extra outdoor space to entertain or relax.

There is also a greenhouse containing several 19th Century relics of the original inhabitants and a hedge garden room conceals a restored cedar gatehouse original to the property.

The property is being offered with or without contents, which include quality antique and vintage furniture.

Yea had a median house price of $395,000 from 45 sales in the 12 months to last October, CoreLogic data shows.
