Paramedics swam to rescue a woman who had fallen seven metres from a waterfall in far north Queensland.

The 51-year-old woman was at Crystal Cascades, a popular freshwater swimming hole in tropical rainforest about 20 kilometres south-west of Carins.

Senior Operations Supervisor James Andrews said bad weather meant rescuers needed to swim in to rescue the woman about 1.15pm.

"She was conscious and alert, she had gained a number of injuries hitting the rock-face on the way down none of which are believed to be life threatening," he said.
