The corner unit on Manly’s tallest beachfront block has a $3.5 million guide.

The Pembroke apartment block on Manly’s beachfront is the tallest in the suburb — and one of the best regarded.

Real estate agents have wait lists of people wanting to buy into the Bonner Ave block which sits on a 4358sqm block of oceanfront land. Locals say the 46 year old building is beautifully maintained, the body corporate is well run and the block is full of well-heeled retirees.

The northeast corner is the coveted spot with views out to sea and up and down the beach.

A three-bedroom apartment on the seventh floor of Pembroke is being auctioned on Saturday April 6, it has a guide of $3.5 million.

It has been extensively remodelled and opened up and is the only one of the 64 units in the block to have its own dressing room.

Owners Rick and Esther Corben paid $1.6 million for the corner unit at 30/20 Bonner Ave in 2004 then undertook a full year’s renovation.

“We demolished walls, opened up the kitchen, lounge and dining rooms, added a second toilet and created a dressing room out of part of the laundry,” Mrs Corben said.

The couple’s architect son Philip drew up the plans and oversaw the project giving his parents a bespoke apartment with a lot of storage.

“We were downsizing from Mosman and needed built-ins for all our stuff,” Mrs Corben said.

The result is a three-bedroom, two bathroom apartment with a double garage and wraparound balcony.

The apartment had walls removed to open the living right up.

There is 186sqm of living and balcony space and with one of the walls removed the stone kitchen and dining room is especially large and extends to the balcony and the view.

“We look across to Queenscliff on one side and Shelly Beach on the other,” Mrs Corben said.

“Not many units have sold on the northeast side,” she added.

Unit number 33, on the northeast corner and on the eighth floor, sold for $2.85 million in March last year. The top price for the block is $3.25 million for a three-bedroom unit that sold in November 2016.

Steve Thomas, of Belle Property, said the large landscaped grounds were manicured and the block was at the quiet end of the beach.
