When Peter and Stephanie Nisyrios set out to build their family home in Unley five years ago, they did so with a firm list of “must-have” inclusions.

Their 47 Fairford St home had to be family friendly, low-maintenance, full of natural light and above all – a true entertainer’s delight that would help showcase the couple’s love for food and wine. The result, a collaborative masterpiece that was inspired by award-winning architect firm Williams Burton Leopardi and custom built by Daniel Jordan Homes.

An opportunity that will have you saying “wine” not

“It all started with the idea that we wanted to live in Unley. We love the area and, also having children, we wanted access to Unley Primary and Glenunga High School,” Mrs Nisyrios says.

“From there, it took us about a year for the development process. There’s a house in Kensington (we saw) that had skylights and a stone fireplace at the end of the home - features we decided we also wanted in our home.

“So we decided that an architecturally designed home was the best choice as we also wanted to get some natural aspects happening, to incorporate the outside in.

“We worked closely with Rob Williams and this was actually the last house he worked on before he retired.”

Completed in 2016, the home sits on an easy-care 737sqm block with gardens designed by leading landscape designer Virginia Kennett.

The front door opens to a wide and inviting entrance hall with a free-flowing floor plan.

Two of the three bedrooms come with built-in robes and study desks, while the luxurious master suite features a walk-in robe, and ensuite with a shower and dual vanities, and access to a side courtyard. The remaining bedrooms are serviced by a stylish family bathroom with both a shower and a bath.

An open-plan living space with a sandstone feature gas fireplace is meanwhile found at the rear. It is overlooked by a contemporary kitchen with marble island benchtops, a mirrored splash back, and an integrated fridge and dishwasher. There’s also a walk-in butler’s pantry and combined study space, and a show-stopping feature walk-in wine room with a glass door and lighting.

“We quite enjoy a good cellar, but considering how much we invested in this wine, we though ‘why not put it on display?’. It goes really well with the rest of the house which also happens to be a good place for entertaining,” Mrs Nisyrios says.

“Over the years, we had plenty of parties here as Peter has quite a big family. You can open-up the bifolds at the end of the dining room and easily fit 60 people in here.

“But personally for me, the location has always been a favourite as well as all the natural light. We never really turn on any lights till 4pm in the afternoon. Also, when you sit in the lounge at night, you can see the moon from one of the high windows.”

With the couple planning for a third child, Mrs Nisyrios says it is time to look for a new home.

“We have lived in the house for four years and our son is starting to get a bit more boisterous. We also have a little girl and are planning for a third child – so we’re thinking about upsizing, but still in the area,” she says.

“We do have mixed feelings about leaving as it’s such a great spot and we’ve loved living here.

“It’s a very quiet street and you’re still close to Unley Oval and you can walk to Woolies.

“So it’d be a great home for a young family with two kids like us, but I think it would also suit professional couples or downsizers.”
