THE highest bidder for a Newcomb property didn’t even have to leave the comfort of his car to secure the “worst house in the best street” on Saturday.
The Geelong buyer surprised the auction crowd when he raised his arm through the open driver’s window while strategically parked directly opposite 14 Boronia St.
He was the last of four bidders to enter the executor’s auction race, buying the three-bedroom brick house, which was in a bad state of disrepair, for $386,000.

Huge Victorian-era home offers rare double frontage to Newtown’s best streets
Bidding opened at $300,000 as buyers scrambled for the chance to unlock value in a popular pocket near the border of East Geelong.
Hayeswinckle, Newtown agent Matthew Roberts said the sale price was $36,000 over the $350,000 reserve.
He said there was huge potential to add value to the original house on a 583sq m block through a renovation or potential subdivision.
“It is a great opportunity, a rare opportunity to enter the market at an entry level price. A market that has seen double digit growth in the last two years,” Mr Roberts said.
“The difference between Newcomb and East Geelong is $150,000 when we talk about median house prices — there is profit in this house.”
He said the buyer purchased the house as an investment and planned to renovate and potentially rent it out.
Tradies and serial renovators were among those keen to get their hands on the house, which has a light-filled loungeroom, separate kitchen and a central bathroom.
The property also has a rear carport with an adjoining single garage and workshop.
