No. 16 Elvina Ave in Newport has a price guide of $2 million to $2.2 million.

David and Janice Abey have more than three decades of family history tied up in their beautiful Newport home.

They were a young couple starting out with four young children when they approached the owners of the home, which was then just a two-bedroom cottage, and asked if they could buy it.

It took six months for the owners to agree to sell it to them, for $275,000. That was 31 years ago.

Warm and cosy.

“So there we were with four young children in a two bedroom cottage,” Mr Abey said.

“We quickly set up four bunks in the second bedroom. Then the renovations started.”

They opened up the living areas, and added a large timber deck as well as a carport with steps to the entrance of the house.

“Our children were growing up so we added a second level with four separate bedrooms, a rumpus room, a four-way bathroom and two elevated decks, it also enhanced our Pittwater views,” Mr Abey said.

“We later renovated the kitchen and the original green tiled solid brick bathroom. We added a new laundry and a second large timber deck. The home was now complete.”

This is a home brimming with the happy memories of a big, active family, and the Hamptons style is even more on-trend today than it was back then.

The couple have loved the easy lifestyle provided by the home at 16 Elvina Ave and its proximity to Florence Park and Pittwater.

“Parties, we have had many. The home has comfortably catered for groups of 60-plus people, primarily due to the large decks and open plan living areas,” Mr Abbey said.

The interiors flow outside.

But with the children now long gone from the nest, the time has come for the couple to downsize.

They leave behind a home which will appeal to families of all shapes and sizes. The decks overlook stunning manicured gardens with vegie patch and fruit trees, and there is room for a pool (STCA).

The home has direct access to Florence Park and the playground via a walkway at the end of the cul-de-sac. It is close to the Royal Motor Yacht Club, Prince Alfred Yacht Club and a short drive to Newport Village and the beach.

It is listed with Gordon Archibald of Wiseberry Mona Vale and goes to auction on Saturday, August 10.
