Open house extravaganza

Crowds line up to view an open house in Cherrybrook

A Cherrybrook home is proving the long held superstition that an address featuring number eight is lucky when it comes to selling real estate.

Queues of potential buyers lined up last weekend to inspect 8 Rothbury Ave, which will now be auctioned due to its popularity.

Agent Reuben Kee from The Avenue was so amazed at the turn out for the initial midweek open home, that he opted to cater for the second showing. A morning and afternoon session was held for accommodate large numbers.

The home at Cherrybrook attracted large crowds at open inspection

“We had 250 people through last Saturday, it was overwhelming — I haven’t never had this kind of open home before in Cherrybrook,” he said.

“People do get excited by the number eight — I have sold property before with a double eight or a single eight but still I didn’t get this kind of reaction, so it must be very lucky.”

The architect-designed five bedroom home is located on a 758 sqm block within the Milford Grove East Estate. Importantly it is within the Cherrybrook Priority Precinct and is also around a 10 minute walk to the newly opened metro station.

Just how and when the area surrounding the station will be developed is yet to be fully determined, however, the property offers a unique opportunity to live in luxury close to the train line while awaiting a future outcome.

It is also zoned for the sought-after Cherrybrook Technology High School, making it an attractive prospect for families.

“Buyers gave similar feedback about the proximity to the metro, the priority precinct, the schools and of course being at number eight,” Mr Kee said.

“Cherrybrook is a beautiful family suburb which offer great amenities, parks, forest reserve, great schools and now great connectivity.”

The number eight is the luckiest in Chinese culture as it signifies wealth and prosperity. It is pronounced ‘Ba’ which is similar to the Chinese word ‘Fa’ which means fortune.

In addition to strong local interest, Mr Kee has also received inquiries from buyers in Taiwan, Dubai and Hong Kong.

A pianist also played during the open home extravaganza to increase its appeal to families.

“We really wanted to connect with the buyers — many families from an Asian and Chinese background have musicians at home — so they could imagine it as if they live in the house during the open inspection,” Mr Kee said.
