The 1854-built house has verandas on two sides.

Many trees on the property are more than 100 years old.

A book written about the house details those early days and even includes mention of a resident ghost.

“It’s gone through a sordid past,” RT Edgar Macedon Ranges director Rick Lander said.

“I’ve been there many times and I don’t feel those sorts of things, so I can’t confirm if there’s a ghost or not — but it makes for a bit of interesting talking, that’s for sure.”

“A lot of the past is on display in the shed — once you go into it there’s a lot of history.”

Mr Lander said much of the early interest in the property was a result of the home’s historic details.

“It is a rare thing to have something so close to Kyneton that hasn’t been tampered with — still very much original,” he said.

“The wonderful thing about this is that not only is it an old house, it’s also an old setting — you’ve got lovely old trees.”

The house rests on 1.42ha.

The home has three bedrooms.

The vendors purchased a neighbouring acre so they could add two 170-year-old oaks to their 1.42ha plot, which also features pines, firs, conifers and gums.

The Melbourne couple, who have owned the weekender for ten years, decided to sell so a new family could add to the wonderful property’s history.
