Here’s another sign of optimism in the Sydney market: the son of one of China’s wealthiest people, “Jeremy” Jianmin Song, has listed the Vaucluse Lighthouse Keepers Cottage for even more money than he bought it for in 2016.
CBRE’s Robert Alfeldi is quoting a range of $8 million to $8.5 million for the iconic Sydney landmark on more than 2600 sqm of oceanfront land at 181 Old South Head Rd.
CoreLogic shows Mr Song, the son of billionaire Nanshan Group founder Zuowen Song, had paid $7.5 million for the property in October 2016.

Mr Alfeldi said the unique property, which has four-bedrooms, three bathrooms and a three-car garage, had been receiving very good interest from locals and expats.
“I haven’t had people hanging up the phone based on the price guide and I’m extremely confident we’ll achieve the asking price,” he said.
“This is an iconic property and so historically significant.”
He said that the cottage, built in 1881 by James Barnett as the keeper’s residence of the nearby circa 1818 Macquarie Lighthouse, would suit a family or a professional couple looking for large unusual property.
“Perhaps not a downsizer,” he laughed. “They like to travel a bit and there’s a big lawn to mow … though I suppose they could get some help.”
There are magic ocean views from the leasehold property and the heritage-listed home was updated by the acclaimed heritage architect Clive Lucas in the late 1990s.
Mr Alfeldi is also selling a six-bedroom home at 64 Hopetoun Ave, Vaucluse, for Mr Song.
That has a price guide of more than $9 million.
It had been listed with Michael Pallier, managing director of Sotheby’s International, for more than $8 million earlier in February.
Mr Song’s family is entrenched in a Wentworth Rd, Vaucluse, compound (he bought a home for $6.888 million in 2009 and its neighbour for $6.4 million for 2015).
There appear to be no plans to sell the Cattai, Hawkesbury River retreat, “Sweven”, he bought from the retail billionaire Brett Blundy, for $18.75 million in 2017.
