Tokyo: A powerful typhoon is approaching western Japan bringing heavy rain and lashing winds.
Forecasters are warining of mudslides, swollen rivers, high waves and torrential rain in wide areas of western Japan as typhoon Krosa heads towards the south-western islands of Shikoku and Kyushu.
This year's 10th typhoon has already caused the cancellation of 166 flights in the region, broadcaster NHK reported.

The slow-moving typhoon is expected to make landfall in western Japan on Thursday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
