Australian families who are planning to upsize from apartments to detached dwellings are expected to flock Sydney's Northern Districts suburbs this spring season.

Some of the most popular suburbs in the area include Epping, Carlingford, Eastwood, Beecroft, and Cheltenham, according to Realestate.com.au.

Carlingford, in particular, has been gaining a lot of traction from interested buyers. McGrath Epping agent Betty Ockerlander said open inspections in the suburb attract as many as 60 groups, most of which are families with children about to start school.

"Many are coming from units and townhouses and needing to get into a school catchment area and feel it is time to upsize due to the growing family," she told Hills Shire Times.

Property listings in suburbs like Carlingford are expected to increase as spring unfolds. Jacqui and Grahame Clinton were amongst those who have put their home up for sale.

"We definitely feel more confident now. We thought it might be good to go to market a bit earlier in spring so we can make a move and be settled before Christmas," Jacqui told Hills Shire Times.

The Clintons bought their three-bedroom home in Tobruk Ave in 2005. The dwelling is near a local high school. It is set to be auctioned in two weeks and has a price guide of $1.25m.
