A teenage boy is fighting for life after being found unconscious with a "significant" head injury on a Gold Coast street.

Paramedics were called to a suburban street at Bundall, set among the Gold Coast's canals, about 1am on Sunday.

Critical care paramedics treated a 15-year-old boy for serious head injuries and rushed him to the Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remained in a critical condition on Sunday afternoon.

A police spokesman said his injuries were consistent with severe blunt force trauma, a bad fall or a serious car accident.

He said police were unsure if the boy had been in an accident or fell victim to an assault and were asking neighbours to come forward if they had seen the boy on Larne Avenue, or noticed anything untoward.

Detectives appealed for any dashcam vision taken in the area to be passed on.

One neighbour told Brisbane Times she did not think any teenage boys lived on the street and had not heard or seen anything in the early hours of Sunday.
