Mitch and Mark from The Block have made a surprising purchase in real life, buying a 1970s house in Newport with an amazing ocean view.

Together for 14 years the couple, who feature on the latest season of The Block, have flipped 15 properties in Sydney’s inner-east, knowing well their market and spending up to $250,000 on each reno before onselling.

They loved the view and could see potential in the house.

However on Wednesday the boys from Bondi signed the paperwork on a four-bedroom house in Grandview Dr, paying close to the $1.7 million advertised guide.

Gordon Archibald, of Wiseberry Mona Vale, said the couple inspected the tri-level home with panoramic views three times, fell in love with the big views and could see how the older home could be modernised for a new owner.

Mitch and Mark intend to take this property to the next level.

The view sealed the deal, but there is no pool on this deck.

“They want to do a contemporary design that makes the most of the views, they want to take the house to the next level,” he said.

A friend who lives in the area encouraged the pair to consider the northern beaches and the house with a self-contained flat sold in less than three weeks.

“They were very definite in what they want and they were determined to buy it,” Mr Archibald said.

MARK AND MITCH BLOW THEIR STACKS

The couple intend to reconfigure the layout of the house, make access a bit easier and give the property a more imposing look. Mr Archibald said he thought it was their intention to renovate and flip in six months.

It will be interesting to see what they do to this kitchen.

The oldest contestants on the show have shown their competitive side while renovating the former Oslo Hotel in St Kilda, Melbourne.

They even played hardball after competing couples disallowed their proposal to add a small pool to their deck.

The latest drama in the series is that Mitch and Mark are asking that any tradie that works with them doesn’t also work for one of the other couples.

This is the fourteenth series of The Block.
