Real Estate Podcast

WHEN the hosts of The Property Pod launched their podcast a few months ago, one of the goals was to educate listeners about the Hobart real estate scene — especially young people looking to crack the market.

An unexpected but positive upside has been property agents Patrick Berry and John McGregor — alongside digital media guru Aaron Horne — have had to push their own knowledge base as the show has grown and developed.

Patrick said they have “25 episodes done and dusted now”, with a new podcast dropping weekly.

“Something we learned along the way is when you are recording a podcast each week you actually have to improve your own knowledge, which has been great for our day-to-day real estate work,” he said.

The Property Pod trio have covered a huge range of topics, including the process of making an offer on a home, property styling, rents and bonds, data, property marketing options, investing, auctions and even artificial intelligence and its implications for the property sector.

Patrick said they have had 12 guests on the show, with the most notable being Ben Morse, a past employee of Marvel Entertainment.

“Ben ran the social media department for Marvel, from the first Iron Man film through to Black Panther,” he said.

“He was amazing to talk to and was a wealth of knowledge.

“As for who we would love to interview moving forward, I’m not sure, but any opportunity that comes I know we are going to grab with both hands.

“It would be cool to get Tom Panos on the microphone to talk about the importance of print marketing, or even a contestant from The Block. Who knows? I guess we will just see what comes!”

Hey, Mitch and Mark, come on the pod.

While the podcast has established itself and grown larger than even the guys may have expected back at episode one, Patrick said he would have trouble selecting a favourite episode.

“I enjoy it when we get people on the show as it adds a different dynamic compared to when it is the three of us,” he said.

“One show that does jump out is titled Vegas Baby, as I was over in the US at Inman Connect — a week-long residential real estate event — and even with a time difference we still recorded the show via Skype.

“We have had over a dozen people reach out directly to ask additional questions, which is great, and two weeks ago their interactions with the pod turned into the Mac’s Mailbag episode, where John looked back at some of the questions we had been asked.”
