A third resident at a western Sydney aged care facility has died of coronavirus.

Key points:

  • The death toll in NSW has risen to 31
  • Anglicare's CEO has offered his sympathy to the dead resident's family
  • An outbreak at the aged care home happened after a staff member worked several shifts while sick with the virus

The 92-year-old female resident of Newmarch House in Caddens had tested positive to coronavirus and died Tuesday morning.

Forty-one residents and staff contracted coronavirus after a healthcare worker came to work while sick.

The death toll in NSW is now 31.

Anglicare Sydney, owners of Newmarch House, confirmed the death on Tuesday evening.

"I have spoken personally to the immediate family of the resident to convey our deepest sympathies," Anglicare Sydney chief executive Grant Millard said.

Two male residents, aged 93 and 94, died last weekend.

An outbreak of coronavirus occurred at the facility after a staff member unknowingly worked while infected for six days.

She was said to be "mortified and distraught" that she had been the catalyst for the cluster at the aged care home.

NSW Health this morning confirmed six new coronavirus infections, bringing the state's total number of cases to 2,969.

Last week Anglicare said residents at Newmarch House were in isolation and staff were now wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the worker had put vulnerable people at risk.

"We have talked about this numerous times but now it appears that some staff are still going to work, even when they have symptoms," he said.

"Please don't go to work if you're feeling sick. Just don't go."
