Collingwood players from the club’s AFL, AFLW and netball teams have written an open letter, expressing sympathy for those who have suffered hurt at the club in the past as a result of racism.
The letter, which was composed by a cross-section of players from each of the club’s teams, was in response to the “Do Better” report that found Collingwood had a history of systemic racism.
Released by the club on Thursday, the letter begins with an apology to those who’ve suffered in the past – a step that president Eddie McGuire was criticised for not taking when the club hierarchy fronted the media with the racism report on Monday.
The letter, which is endorsed by the entire playing groups of Collingwood’s teams, reads as follows:
